Why We Slaughtered Pro-Biafra Protesters- Chief Of Army Staff

By Ikenga Chronicles December 5, 2016

The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Yusuf Burutai has on Monday December 5 revealed why the Nigerian army shot and killed pro-Biafra protesters at Onitsha, Anambra State.

Burutai made this disclosure while answering questions from press men during a courtesy visit to Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha as part of activities marking the commencement of the 2016 Chief of Army Staff conference.

The army chief confirmed that protesting members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) were shot by soldiers because they were armed and violent, adding that the soldiers needed to protect themselves.

He said: “It is only under extreme conditions and stringent situations that the army would resort to the use of arms.”

He disclosed that ”available evidence has shown that the IPOB and MASSOB members were armed and had attacked security agents during the protest thus compelling soldiers to respond.”

Burutai while comparing the activities of the Boko Haram in the North East this year and that of previous years maintained that insurgency has been degraded. He explained  that recent attacks in some parts of the zone show that the insurgents could no longer reach their targets as in the past when they used to attack mosques, markets among others resulting to the killing of many innocent Nigerians.
