We Were Paid Handsomely To Influence The Results Of Rivers Re-Run–INEC Adhoc Staff

As controversies continue to dodge the Rivers Legislative Re-run elections, a lecturer at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, who was part of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staff that oversaw the process has revealed that huge amounts of money were paid to them to influence the results of the election.

The lecturer who agreed to talk to Ikenga Chronicles privately disclosed this over the weekend. According to him;

“They spent a lot of money in the elections!I used to hear about such things before, but never knew it was possible. One party will come and give us N150,000 each, and another will come and give N200,000, and so on! It was crazy”

When specifically asked which of the parties was making the financial inducements, he replied;

“Both APC and PDP!”

“It was as if they were trying to outdo each other”

“It was really funny because I thought it was just a re-run. But apparently, it meant so much to both parties that they treated it like a do or die affair”

In the meantime, accusations and counter accusations continue to trail the re-run election with an alleged leaked audio of Governor Nyesom Wike making the rounds. The Rivers State government has since dismissed the leaked audio as fake and manufactured by the publisher of online newspaper, Sahara Reporters.

Meanwhile, an observer during the elections, Khadeejah Pepple has confirmed the use of the military to rig the election by the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to her;

“I was an Observer, places they [APC] claimed to have won was won by Military Intimidation and Hijacking of Electoral Materials. DIG Habilah promised A Non-Violence[sic], Free and Fair Election. Rather we got Militarized Election especially in Rivers South East.”
