W/C Qualifiers: Osinbajo Urges Eagles To Win

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo yesterday urged the Super Eagles to win the Algerians in the crucial 2018 World Cup qualifiers on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo. Osinbajo who paid a surprise visit to the Eagles training ground at the Abuja National Stadium, ‎told the players to go all out for a win and not disappoint Nigerians

“I commend you for your patriotism and commitment to the cause of fatherland. By going to Zambia to defeat the Zambians on their own ground for the first time, you have shown your determination to conquer your group and qualify for the World Cup.”

“I want to assure you that the Government and people of Nigeria are behind you in your quest to qualify for the World Cup. I believe that you will certainly pick the ticket from your group to make it to the World Cup finals,” Osinbajo said.

The Eagles would jet out today to Uyo to continue their build up for the game. The German coach of the team Gernot Rohr was visibly happy yesterday with the early arrival of the players most of whom were in action for their clubs last weekend. All the 23 players invited by Rohr were in camp yesterday and Rohr and his assistants put the players through their paces twice yesterday.

The Super Eagles go into Saturday’s match on a four –match winning streak, going back to the summer when they defeated Mali 1-0 in Rouen, France and spanked Luxembourg 3-1 in Luxembourg City-both were friendly matches.

In September, the Eagles pipped Tanzania 1-0 in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo, before edging Zambia 2-1 in Ndola at the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup race on 9th October.

Manchester City of England’s youthful forward Kelechi Iheanacho scored in all four matches.
