By Ikenga Chronicles January 5, 2017

Ghana’s incoming president, Nana Akufo-Addo has on Wednesday, January 4, abandoned President Muhammadu Buhari’s style of appointing ministers and aides by naming few of his cabinet members ahead of his inauguration on January 7, unlike Buhari who named his cabinet members 10 months after his swearing in.

The Ghana President-elect had once described Nigeria President as his hero and mentor when he recently paid a courtesy visit to Buhari in Aso Rock.He had contested For President In Ghana three times before defeating the incumbent just like Buhari did in Nigeria.

Adopting the Donald Trump style of appointing ministers and aides before inauguration, Nana Akufo on Wednesday announced three principal officers in his government ahead of his inauguration on Saturday January 7.

The appointments include the Minister of National Security, the National Security Advisor and National Security Coordinator. The president-elect also named an Executive Secretary and two deputies to the Chief of Staff.

Among the appointees is a woman, Mrs. Frema Osei-Opare, who was named as the Chief of Staff–she becomes the first female to be appointed to that position in Ghana.

Akufo-Addo, who announced the appointments during a short ceremony at his home in Accra, also named Francis Asenso Boakye and Samuel Abu Jinapor as deputies to the Chief of Staff.

A retired Brigadier-General of the Ghana Armed Forces, Emmanuel Okyere was named National Security Advisor.

Akufo-Addo further named former Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), as the National Security Coordinator.

Former Interior Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah was nominated as Minister of National Security. The former Member of Parliament’s appointment has to be confirmed by Parliament.

Meanwhile Nana Asante Bediatuo, a private legal practitioner was named Executive Secretary to the incoming president. Ambassador Hassan Ahmid and Eugene Arhin were named Director of Protocol and Director of Communications respectively.
