By Ikenga Chronicles December 7, 2016

ABUJA– With so many Nigerians suffering due to the harsh economic conditions in the country, the people’s senator, Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi State has warned that the unfair economic structures in the country are tantamount to the violation of the human rights of the people.

Senator Melaye who made this known in a message he sent to Ikenga Chronicles, explained that unfair economic structures, just like terrorism and assassinations are gross violations of human rights;

“Human rights are not only violated by terrorism or assassination, but also by unfair economic structures that create huge inequalities.”

The outspoken senator who pointed out that unfair economic structures result in huge economic gaps between the people, emphasized that inequality and democracy are mutually exclusive;

“We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can’t have both.”

With concerns of human rights violations in the North and South East, Senator Dino Melaye’s views add to a widening belief among the people that the present government is exhibiting serious undemocratic traits.
