As the 2019 election draws near, Fayose has founded a political group called ‘Oshokomole.’ The new group mainly made up of the governor’s loyalists as well as political leaders in and outside the PDP was launched in Ikere Ekiti, recently.

The event was attended by members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, political appointees and youth, as well as members of the PDP.

There are speculations that the movement might be an exit plan for the governor from the PDP. But the Director of Media and Publicity of the movement, who is also a member of the state assembly, Adedayo Akinleye, said it should not be mistaken as an exit plan for Fayose.

According to him, “We are telling the whole world that wherever Fayose goes anytime from now, we will follow him en mass. It is all about sustaining the Ayo Fayose legacy beyond 2018 and particularly to tell the whole world and in particular, Ekiti people, that wherever Fayose is going in 2018, we are going with him. Whoever Ayo Fayose and our people pick in 2018 for the governorship race, we will support him,” he said.

Speculations are rife in the state of possibility about the governor ditching the crisis-ridden PDP for the ruling APC, but Fayose had since denied such move.

Fayose, who was reacting to newspaper reports while receiving “An Outstanding Achiever of Our Time Award” from the Ado Progressives Union (APU) at the palace of the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe Aladesanmi
111, said he remained a committed member of the PDP.

Unfolding events, especially the factionalization of the party in the state and at the national level, with one faction headed by Sen. Ahmed Makarfi and another by Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, might have informed the governor’s latest move, especially now that 2018 governorship election is fast approaching, many have argued.

Fayose, like many PDP governors has pulled his weight with the Makarfi faction of the party, even now that the Appeal Court had given recognition to Sheriff.

A source within the PDP in the state, said both rulings had really put a spanner in the political works of the governor, such that he might not likely have his alleged plan to impose his lackey as the PDP candidate in the coming governorship election in the state, sail through.

According to him, “We just love Fayose and want a continuation of his legacy in the state. That is why wherever Fayose goes, we are following him. If Fayose leaves PDP today, we will follow him,” he said.

Akinleye said the coordinators at the local levels would be meeting weekly attract followership.

“We would also get to know the number of people voting for our party in each ward through the polling units coordinators,” he added.

A chieftain of the APC in the state, who craved for anonymity, said Fayose, who is also the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, was seriously looking for a platform that would save him from facing prosecution for alleged crimes
he committed since he assumed office.

“The APC is his likely point of call,” he said. “You know Fayose is facing a lot of criminal charges in the court and I am sure the EFCC is waiting for him to complete his tenure in 2018. He is being covered by immunity and that is why he is just running his mouth but we are waiting for him in the APC,” he said.

The source referred to the governor’s latest romance with the APC governors and “patronizing remarks in support of some leaders of the APC, especially Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,” as a pointer to Fayose’s plan to have a soft landing
anytime he knocks at the party’s doors.

Specifically, there are fillers that he would also use the new political movement to penetrate other states in the South-West and beyond to actualize his dream of winning the vice presidential slot of whatever party he will belong to as the 2019 election approaches.
