Uhuru Kenyatta Wins Kenya’s Presidential Election

The incumbent President of Kenya, Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta has been declared the winner of Kenya’s Presidential election by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Mr. Kenyatta fought off stiff competition from his closest rival, Raila Odinga, who has contested for the position four times now.

The IEBC says that Mr. Kenyatta was able to meet the legally required 50% plus 1 votes, and at least 25% votes in 24 counties needed to be declared an outright winner.

The incumbent President secured 8,203,290 votes which is 54.27% of votes cast, while Mr. Odinga got 6,762,224 votes which is 44.74% of votes cast with the other six candidates sharing 0.97% of the votes. In total,Mr. Kenyatta secured 25% of votes in 35 counties.

While announcing the results of the election,the chairman of the IEBC, Wafula Chebukati said;

“Having fulfilled the requirements of the law, I wish to declare Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta as the president-elect and Hon. William Ruto as the deputy president elect of Kenya.”

Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is 55years old.
