UCL: Simeone Laments Chelsea Draw

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has lamented the result of his side’s clash against Chelsea in the Champions League game which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The result of the game means the Spanish side will be relegated to the Europa League as they failed to make it to the next round in the UCL.

In his reaction, Simeone said: “It hurts as a result. Our football is wonderful, we stay out when we scored more points than last season, we do not look for excuses and we take responsibility.

“The Qarabag game, with 10 times without converting, is difficult to explain. The feeling, beyond this negative scenario, is that the team is and will compete for the Liga, Copa and Europa League.”

He continued: “This is not a failure. It was a situation that could happen. Failure is when you do not reach a target that you think you can meet, people are there and the team gives you back your self-esteem, there’s a very big season ahead.”

Asked if this is the end of the current Atleti team, Simeone added: “No, on the contrary, this opens up a new challenge and a new hope to keep fighting, everything that is bad, for us, becomes good.”

Simeone and his men will resume La Liga action with a trip to Betis to face Real Betis on Sunday.
