This Bag of Nothingness!

— By Iloh Friday Okechukwu

At a political discourse last week, someone, playing the Devil’s advocate, asked me what I have always had against General Muhammadu Buhari, the incumbent executive president of Nigeria, on the state of the nation. Not minding his motive, I told him my mind, which I have always made clear; one, given precedent and ongoing happenings, Buhari does not possess the intelligence to steer the political wheel of the nation; two, he is a religious fundamentalist.

Buhari is in his second tenure of being president of Nigeria; how far and how well has the nation fared so far? Insecurity, one of the main thrust of Buhari’s campaign promises, how well and secured are the lives and properties of Nigerians and other persons within the country? I need not write a dissertation on this. Only yesterday or so, the minister of transport, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, was alleged to have fled, despite his iron fist security, upon the onslaught of insurgents, in the very heart of Kaduna state of Nigeria. The North-East is like a poultry of human beings, where the satanic Boko haram Islamic extremists harvests human beings at will, either for mere sport of killing or for ransoms, not to talk of their consistent abduction of girls and women. The Fulani Herdsmen, the fourth deadliest killer group in the whole wide world, according to the United Nations Organization, is the coronavirus ravaging the country; The herdsmen have wrecked untold killings and brigandage across the country.

Buhari claimed to have “technically defeated” (whatever that meant) Boko haram. Boko haram is far more potent than ever now. The erudite Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah, in a sober response to the murder of a catholic seminarian, in Kaduna, by the Boko haram sect, bemoaned the ill-administration of Buhari, saying, that the nation is a rudderless ship.

Just this evening, I read that the Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Major-General Munguno accused Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to the president, of meddling with the nation’s security, by instructing security chiefs without the knowledge of the president. Mungunu submitted that Kyar’s meddlesomeness greatly undermines the counterinsurgency efforts of the nation’s security forces. What would jolt some people is the allegation that the president does not KNOW the counter-effort of the chief of Staff, according to Mungunu. It is of note, that the whole of the security architecture of Nigeria, from 2015 till date, is peopled with the Fulanis only, to the exclusion of other tribes in Nigeria. Yet nothingness is what we get daily. Abba (I think the name should have been “Haba!” Keyari) recently told a forlorn nation that insurgency is fuelled by the situation in Libya!

The revelation of Mungunu confirmed the feelings of most Nigerians, that the Federal Government’s counterinsurgency strategy and policies seem to lack sincerity of purpose. No wonder Buhari was booed in Maiduguri. A great deal of Northerners are greatly disenchanted with him, given the butchery made of their lives and properties by Boko haram and their associates.

Well, some persons claimed that Buhari was Hobson’s choice, but whatever, here we are.

You are earnestly looking unto 2023?
