The Hate Speech Legislation In Nigeria Is A Double-edge Sword

The Hate Speech Legislation that the Buhari Government in which a Professor of Law and a born-again Pastor Yemi Osinbajo is the Second-in-command is going to prove to be a Double-edge sword for the people putting it together because once it is signed into Law it becomes a weapon that knows no friends or enemy.

I recall late Ogbuefi Nnamdi Azikiwe of the NCNC ganging up with the Sardauna Ahmadu Bello and the British Colonial Government at the London Conference to shoot down the Awolowo provision or addendum to the Nigerian Constitution for Independence deliberately and wisely added by the smart lawyer among the attendees that every region should reserve the right to break away or opt out from the confederal arrangement if it is persuaded the Union is no longer serving its best interest.

If Nnamdi Azikiwe had sided with Obafemi Awolowo the provision would not have been expunged from the Nigeria Constitution for Independence.

Guess who first suffered the consequence of the collective stupidity of their naive and short-sighted decision in London.

It was the old Eastern Region of Nigeria where Azikiwe was the pioneer Premier.

The double- edge sword had put the old Eastern Region and the Igbos in a Double Bind when the Hausa/Fulani declared a Pogrom on the Igbos in the North and had pursued them to their safe homes in Unuahia Ubeku, in Nnewi and in Ifite Oraifite and Onitsha and Enugu to force them to stay in the Nigerian Federation against their best interest and their own better judgment.

That was the scenario that led Nigeria into the first very costly Civil War in Nigeria from 1967 to 1970.

Most of you reading this would also recall that it was one Professor Nwabueze another Igbo erudite Professor of Law that wrote the first draft of the Constitution that more or less turned Nigerian into a Unitary Government for the roughly 6 months that General Aguiyi Ironsi was Head of State of Nigeria.

It is now what the Hausa/Fulani Oligarchy have been using as a weapon to wreak havoc on Nigeria and to put the whole South in perpetual bondage if you see what I see and if we are on the same wave length.

The truth I am telling here could be misconstrued into a Hate Speech down the road if the Legislation is signed into Law in Nigeria by President Buhari and the powers that be in Nigeria

It will be the end of Democracy in Nigeria if you can believe me.

Now be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.

The Hate Speech Legislation now making the rounds in the Nigerian Parliament at the behest of President Buhari, I repeat, is going to be a double-edge sword if you get my point.

Need I say anything more?
