Super Eagles’ Fate To Be Decided Today

By Ikenga Chronicles June 22, 2018

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are excited to decide their own fate today with other factors already working in their favour.

A win against Iceland in Friday’s second group stage game means the Eagles’ chances of progressing to the knockout stages of the 2018 World Cup are clearer.

After losing their opening match in the group 2 – 0 to 1998 semi-finalists Croatia, the Super Eagles are sitting at the bottom of the table with no point after the first round of matches.

However, Argentina’s 3-0 defeat in the hands of Croatia leaves the door open for Nigeria.

Iceland midfielder Gunnarsson said their aim is to get all three points against the three – time African champions.

“Now we are focused on Nigeria. We can’t dwell on the Argentina game. If we don’t focus on Nigeria and we don’t get a result there, then the point against Argentina is no use for anyone,” the Cardiff player was quoted as saying by Goal.

But Nigeria’s captain Mikel Obi is confident his team can stop Iceland and get their World Cup campaign back on track.
