Southgate eager to know fate on England job

Interim England manager Gareth Southgate has called for the Football Association to make a decision on his future before Christmas.

The former England International will play his last four-match stint incharge at the Wembley against Spain due to earlier agreement but is the favourite to land the job on a permanent basis rather than resuming his position as manager of the Under-21s.

“It will be important for me to know what I’m doing after the middle of November. We’ve got a European Under-21 Championship to prepare for and the seniors have got their next round of qualifiers (in March),” he told reporters.

“Of course everybody is going to want to know, I guess, by the end of November, middle of December, where everything is heading so we can decide who is responsible for which parts of the organisation’s work.”

“That’s not my decision in the end. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve done so far.”

Meanwhile, the Three Lions’ record goalscorer, Wayne Rooney, was absent from training on the eve of the game against Spain, due to a minor injury.‎”
