Senate Snubs Magu’s Confirmation As EFCC Boss

By Ikenga Chronicles December 8, 2016

The senate on Thursday opted not to proceed with the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Recall that the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, had announced at plenary on Wednesday that the confirmation hearing would hold Thursday, after five months delay.

But the Senate sprang a surprise as the confirmation was not listed in the order paper

The Presidency had sought the Senate’s approval since July through a letter signed by Vice-president Yemi Osinbajo in his capacity as the acting president when Buhari was away on a medical trip.

However, since the letter was read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on July 14, the Senate had not shown readiness to treat the request, fueling allegations that some Senators were trying to block Magu’s confirmation.
