Saraki, Ali-Modu Sheriff’s Meeting Ahead Of 2019 Sparks Concerns In Aso Rock

The Sunday, December 18 secret meeting between Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Ali Modu-Sheriff has thrown the presidency off balance.

The meeting, which lasted for a little over 20 minutes, at an enclosure within the International Conference Centre complex, Abuja has sent a dangerous signal to President Muhammadu Buhari considering the much touted mega party widely reported to be in the offing.

Saraki had made his way into the complex at about 7.30 pm and left around 7.51pm and was received by Sheriff who strolled with him to a corner of the hall where they held the meeting.

The meeting came at a time when there are widespread speculations about political re-alignments ahead of the 2019 general elections.

A renowned political analyst ( name withheld) disclosed that there is an alleged move by forces in the APC to stop Buhari from contesting the 2019 Presidential Elections because of the president’s poor handling of the economy.

According to reports,  Buhari’s core loyalist are no longer comfortable with the sudden political romance between Saraki and Sheriff in the build up to 2019.

When contacted, the Special Assistant to the Senate President (Print Media), Chucks Okocha, said while it was true that his boss met with Sheriff, it had nothing to do with politics.

He said, “My principal only went to felicitate with the Sheriffs over the wedding of their daughter.”

“The Sarakis and the Sheriffs have been family friends for over 20 years.”

“There is nothing usual about them sharing moments of joy such as weddings. It was just a social visit and that is what it is.”
