Rohr Confirms Mikel’s Marseille Talks

By Ikenga Chronicles December 19, 2016

Super Eagles’ head coach, Gernot Rohr, has confirmed that John Obi Mikel, is in advanced talks with Olympique Marseille over a possible move come January.

Having joined Chelsea in 2006, and making over 350 appearances for the club, Mikel has been told by new manager Antonio Conte  to find a new club as his services are no longer needed.

The 29-year-old is now expected to be let go by the Premier League leaders and is seemingly on the verge of a move to France.

“I saw Obi Mikel in London” Rohr told Europe 1.

“He is in advanced discussions with Olympique Marseille.

“He will leave Chelsea for free. This is a serious option.”

With his  contract at Stamford Bridge set to expire at the end of the season, Chelsea’s second longest-serving player behind John Terry, is yet to play a single minute under Antonio Conte and has hinted at a falling out with the manager over his involvement at the Olympic Games.

Marseille are thought to be in the market for a defensive midfielder, with the future of Lassana Diarra up in the air after he was fined €10 million for breaking his contract with Lokomotiv Moscow.
