Riyad Mahrez Wins BBC African Footballer Of The Year

Leicester City and Algerian midfielder, Riyad Mahrez has been named the BBC African Footballer of the year, 2016.The Algerian player who was crowned the PFA player of the year for his contributions to Leicester City’s incredible triumph as Premier league champions last season,held off competition from Yaya Toure,Andre Ayew,Saido Manè,and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mahrez said;

“It means a lot, it’s something big for African players so I am very happy, I am very proud.

“It’s always good to receive awards and for African players it’s a huge honour. To all the fans, thank you very much.”

He dedicated the award to Algerians and his family, and thanked them for their support;

“Also I want to thank the Algeria fans and dedicate this to them as well and for my family.

“I just have to carry on and keep going with my football and see what I can do.”

Mahre is also favourites to be crowned the CAF African Footballer of the year 2016,in January.
