Pres. Buhari Vows To Investigate And Prosecute Officials Involved In The Rape Of 43 IDP Women And Girls

By Ikenga Chronicles October 31, 2016

Following a report by the Human Rights Watch(HRW) that at least 43 women and girls in IDPs camps in Nigeria have been raped by Nigerian officials, President Muhammadu Buhari has called for immediate investigation of the abuse.

The President made this known in a press release issued by his Spokesman Garba Shehu on Monday(today).According to the statement;

“President Muhammadu Buhari is worried and shocked by the recently released Human Rights Watch(HRW) report which alleges sexual abuse and exploitation of women and girls in camps for those displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.”

With the Boko Haram insurgency having displaced millions of Nigerians especially in the North of the country, many Nigerians were thrown into bewilderment when the report of the HRW was made public.Many looked at such exploitation of the Internally Displaced Persons as double suffering for a people already bearing the unfortunate brunt of terrorism.

But in keeping with his commitment to protect all Nigerians, President Buhari has assured Nigerians and the international community that his administration will fully investigate the allegation and deal appropriately with the culprits;

“President Buhari has instructed the Inspector General of Police and the state governors of the affected states to immediately commence investigations into the issue”
