Pope Francis: Doing Too Much

–Vitus Ozoke

So, here’s a picture of Pope Francis kissing the shoes of the President of South Sudan, urging him to give peace a chance. Hmmm, I don’t know about this, but maybe Pope Francis doesn’t understand the dynamics of cross-religious power and dictatorship.

Does the pope even realize what damage he has done here? Does he not see that he has just inaugurated a monster? Show me a more power bragging right than a Muslim dictator having his shoes kissed by the Catholic pope? This is like going across the denominational aisle to get an endorsement.

Yes, Jesus washed people’s feet, but those were his disciples’ feet. For those who were killing and butchering others, Jesus had no sympathy. Did He not warn that it would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a milestone tied around their neck than to cause one of the little ones to sin? Jesus would forgive sinners, but not kiss their ass. Yes, their ass if you understand the symbolism of shoes in the Muslim religion.

I hope this extreme experiment works. I hope Salva Kiir Mayardit returns to Juba to kiss the shoes of the people he has been killing. But I would not hold my breath for it. Pope Francis should realize he carries the faith and dignity of 1.2 billion Catholics with him. No religion, including the Islamic religion, should be kissing the feet and shoes of murderous dictators. This is humility on steroids. #Doing2much
