Police Brutality: Alton Sterling Murdered

Baton Rouge, Louisiana:

A 37-year old African American man, Alton Sterling was shot multiple times at point blank range by officers of the Baton Rouge Police Department, yesterday, the 5th of July.

The Baton Rouge Police reportedly responded to a call by a man, stating that a man, fitting Alton’s description was selling CDs, and threatening him, while brandishing a gun. The Police arrested Alton in the early hours of the 5th of July,at 2112 North Foster Drive, in the parking lot of Triple S Food Mart.

A video recorded by a bystander shows one of the officers tackling Alton, and pinning him to the ground, while the other initially held Alton’s hands, before leaving them, and shooting him at point blank range.While the first shot was captured by the camera, other shots were not, as the bystander had taken in the camera, and could be heard crying in the background.

According to reports, the owner of Triple S Food Mart stated that Alton was not holding a gun, or reaching for one when he was shot.

The shooting has led to mass protestations by people, as they seek justice for the murder of Alton.
