Cristiano Ronaldo had an incredible year in 2016, wining the UEFA Champions league with Real Madrid, and Euro 2016 with Portugal. Messi on the other hand led Argentina to the Copa America finals, and won the domestic double–La Liga and Copa Del Rey– with Barcelona. Ronaldo has won the Ballon D’or thrice already in 2008, 2013, and 2014 with the later two coming after the Ballon D’or had merged with the FIFA Awards. This year however, the award has returned to its original status.
The winner of the 2016 Ballon D’or will officially be announced later today with Ronaldo expected to miss the ceremony as he will be in Japan with Real Madrid ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup Competition.
