PDP Progressives In Ikwuano Stop Akobundu’s Plan To Turn LGA To Family Property

Progressive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State have put a stop to the plans of the National Organizing Secretary of the party, RTD Col. Austin Akobundu, to continue with his plans to convert the entire Ikwuano LGA to his family’s personal property. This was set in motion when the party members held a peaceful LGA Congress at the Ndoru Central School field, and unanimously elected a new Executive in line with the resolution of the Abia State Caucus of the party.

The Congress saw Mr. Emeka Uchegbu elected as the Chairman, Gloria Anacho as Deputy Chairman, Okechukwu Agu as Secretary, Nelson Ezegbulam as Treasurer, Timothy Ojike as Youth Leader, and sixteen other officers.

Recall that the said Col. Akobundu had held a secret meeting with a few members of the party in his Oloko country home, on March 20th and personally drawn up a list of people whom he wanted to be forced on the party as the new Executive. After drawing up the list, he secretly left Ikwuano on the morning of March 21,2020, which was the congress date, and asked his stooges to announce the list he drew up as the new party executives.

However, in a largely attended Congress held by party progressives at Ndoro, Ikwuano PDP openly elected their preferred Executive under the directive of representatives of the party at the state level (which include Chika Ogbonna) and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Unity Key For The All Round Development Of Ikwuano-Group

Reacting to the actions of PDP Ikwuano, an active youth of the LGA Mr. Ferdinand Ogbonna, stated as follows:

“The only good thing about today’s PDP congress is that Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency has stopped Akobundu from running Ikwuano as a family business. How can an individual be so greedy to the extent that State house of Assembly member is his nephew from Oloko clan; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor is his immediate younger brother still from Oloko clan; the Deputy TC Chairman Ikwuano LGA is his cousin from Oloko clan. As if that is not enough, he is preparing his in-law for elected chairman. Is Ikwuano his family property?”

It is on record that Col. Akobundu has already annexed most of the positions due to Ikwuano, to members of his family in order to ensure that he continues to run the LGA as his family property.
