Onuigbo’s Predecessor Hon. Ibeji Throws His Weight Behind The Lawmaker’s Re-election Bid

The immediate past member that represented Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South federal constituency, Hon. Udo Oluchi Ibeji has thrown his full weight behind the re-election bid of the member representing the constituency at the House of Representatives, Rep. Sam Onuigbo.

Hon. Ibeji made this known during a strategy meeting with Rep. Onuigbo and his entourage, at his Old Umuahia home, on Sunday February 3, 2019.

Speaking during his introductory remarks, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Abia State on Donor Funds, Chief Ejim Chibuzo described how Hon. Ibeji has been supportive of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Old Umuahia ward and Umuahia South in general and said that part of the reasons for the visit was to thank Hon. Ibeji, and encourage him to do more for Umuahia South, and the PDP.

In his speech, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South federal constituency, Rep Onuigbo said that all of the supportive works of Hon. Ibeji for the party and the people are well known, hence he visited to thank him. He said Ikwuano/Umuahia has always been blessed with great representatives like Hon. Acho Obioma, Hon. Emeka Atuma, Hon Ibeji, and others and said he hopes to be able to fit into that class in the course of his representation. Onuigbo who recalled that the constituency is peopled by great people, mentioned great sons of the constituency such as Michael Okpara, General Aguiyi Ironsi, Emeka Omeruo, JOJ Okezie, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, T.A Orji, among others, as examples of the greatness of the constituency.

He thanked Hon. Ibeji for all he has done, and begged him to continue to do more for the party. The lawmaker stated that it was important also for him to use the opportunity to seek the former lawmaker’s guidance for the next phase in his re-election bid. Onuigbo pointed out that it was time to begin to work towards restructuring the political status of Ikwuano and Umuahia so that more political benefits can come to the people.

In his response, Hon. Ibeji expressed his happiness at the visit and stated that way before politics, he and Rep. Onuigbo have been friends. He said the reason why people like him ventured into politics is for the service of the people, and said he stands firmly on what is in the farthest interest of the constituency. The former lawmaker said the constituency retrogressed from having a solely Ikwuano federal constituency, to now have a constituency that merges Ikwuano with Umuahia North and South, and expressed his agreement with Rep. Onuigbo that the constituency is too big, and efforts should be made to restructure the constituency as each of the LGAs that make up the constituency is big enough to be a federal constituency on its own.

Ibeji wished Rep. Onuigbo well and said that prior to the honourable member’s visit, he had been working to ensure his victory, and promised that they will secure victory for Onuigbo in their area. He said that beyond the victory, he will work with Rep. Onuigbo, to ensure that a high standard of representation is enshrined, for the good of the constituency.
