Ondo Guber Poll: Jimoh’s Candidature Tears Sheriff PDP’s Faction Apart

By Ikenga Chronicles October 27, 2016

The Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have started singing discordant tunes over the Ondo election.

This became evident on Wednesday, October 26 when the National Secretary of the Sheriff faction, Professor Wale Oladipo, said the party only recognised Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the party for the election.

Oladipo stated this in Abuja while addressing newsmen, adding that Ibrahim emerged as the PDP candidate through a bonafide primary election conducted by the party.

Oladipo’s insistence on Ibrahim however runs contrary to the position of Ali Modu Sheriff, his faction’s national chairman, who earlier said it does not matter to him who the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,
picks as candidate, between Ibrahim and the candidate of the Ahmed Makarfi led faction, Eyitayo Jegede.

Speaking further, Prof Oladipo said Ondo State is very important to the party and that the PDP is determined to keep the state.

He said: “we know of no other candidate but Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim. A court of competent jurisdiction has said it, it has reiterated its position in another order which INEC itself has acknowledged receipt of. So, we are waiting to see the magic the electoral umpire is planning to perform.

“If they do otherwise, we will pursue the matter and ensure that the INEC staffs involved are jailed for contempt of court”.

“While we are preaching reconciliation, we will not allow anybody to trample on the constitution of the country. Jimoh Ibrahim’s candidature cannot be sacrificed on the altar of reconciliation”, Oladipo said.
