The Olugbense ruling house of Offa in Kwara State has petitioned the Chairman of National Judicial Council (NJC), the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Supreme Court. The house has called for a probe into alleged “controversial judgements” in the cases involving them, Olofa of Offa, Alhaji Mufutau Mohammed Gbadamasi Esuwoye and Alhaji Jimoh Bosere, substituted for Alhaji Sheu Oyeniyi and eight others.

Copies of the petition were sent to President Muhammadu Buhari, his deputy, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Chairman, Human Rights Commission, Attorney General and Minister of Justice and the Chairman Presidential Advisory Committee of Anti-Corruption.

The petition dated August 16, 2016 was signed by Alhaji Saka Adeyemo, head of Olugbense ruling house, Alhaji Raimi Keji, the secretary and Prince Saka Keji, a member. They urged the concerned judicial bodies to investigate a judgement delivered against them by the Supreme Court on July 1, 2016.

In the lead judgement delivered by Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, the Olugbense ruling house was bared from contesting the Oloffa stool, giving Anilelerin family the sole right to ascend the throne.

The Olugbense family therefore appealed to President Buhari to order a full investigation into the judgement. They also requested a committee made up of personnel from the NJC, EFCC, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Presidency to investigate the issue.
