NSE Vows To Maintain High Standard, Elect New Leaders

The Nigerian Stock Exchange has vowed that it will no longer tolerate violations of rules and regulations from dealing member firms and quoted companies in other to ensure standard.

Speaking at the NSC Lagos Ibadan Branch Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Chief Executive Officer of the NSE, Mr. Oscar Onyema noted that the exchange proved it’s strength despite the economic downturn, diminishing commodity prices and volatile securities markets that were experienced in the course of the year.

The CEO  said the exchange is well positioned to encourage and even require listed companies to produce better sustainability reports that are issued consistently and with comparable information.

Onyema said currently, a range of capital market stakeholders were increasingly recognizing the need for more widespread and consistent ESG disclosure.

The Exchange had stressed the need for enhanced levels of corporate transparency on Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) in order to meet up with global best practices.

The NSE held the Zonal AGM of its Branch Councils Uyo, Abuja and Lagos on December 06, 14 and 16, 2016 respectively where Zonal Branch Council members were elected.

The Lagos/Ibadan Zonal Branch Council saw the re-election of Golden Securities Ltd (represented by Mr.Emmanuel Ortswen); and Nigerian Stockbrokers Ltd (represented by Mr. Bosun Adekoya)to the branch council.

The Port Harcourt/ Onitsha Branch Council AGM which held in Uyo re-elected City-Code Trust Ltd (represented by Mr. Ebilate Mac-Yoroki), Mega Equities Ltd (represented by Mr. Sam Onukwue), Cradle Trust Finance & Securities Ltd (represented by Mrs Mary A. Ebong), and, Kapital Care Trust & Securities Limited (represented by Mr. Michael K. Daniel) as members of the branch council.

At the Kano/Kaduna/ Yola Branch Council AGM, Tiddo Securities Limited (represented by Mr. Isaac Iortsor) Light House Asset Management Ltd (represented by Mr. Emmanuel Ocholi), and PIPC Securities Limited. (represented by Mr. Daniel Usman) were re-elected to the branch council.
