Messi Breaks Two Barcelona Records

By Ikenga Chronicles April 24, 2017

The name Lionel Messi is yet to leave the scene for what he is known for after as he again made a mark when his Barcelona side defeated Real Madrid 3-2 in the El-clasico game on Sunday night.

Messi’s winner makes it his 500th Barcelona goal, a club record that would be held by him alone.

Also, Messi had broken a three – year goalless drought against Madrid to cancel out Casemiro ’ s opener for Madrid in the first – half before scoring his second goal of the game at the last 90th minute.

Not surprisingly, Messi’s 500 goals make him Barcelona’s leading all-time scorer, more than doubling the tally of next-best Cesar Rodriguez Alvarez, who managed 232 between 1942 and 1955.

He has reached that figure in just 577 games, and amazingly he has been going along at a rate of more than a goal per game ever since being converted from a right winger into a more central position by Pep Guardiola in 2009.
