Madrid Secures Zidane’s Replacement

European champions Real Madrid have appointed current Spain coach Julen Lopetegui to replace Zinedine Zidane as their manager from next season.

Zidane had stepped down after leading the LaLiga giants to three straight UEFA Champions League titles.

“Julen Lopetegui will be the coach of Real Madrid after the 2018 World Cup,” the club announced on their official website on Tuesday.

Lopetegui will take charge for the next three seasons.

“ Julen Lopetegui will join the club after the participation of the Spanish team in the World Cup, after two years of leading the national team.”

Lopetegui was appointed Spain coach in 2016 but is familiar with the team having managed Madrid team B in the past.

He was previously FC Porto manager. He played briefly for both Real Madrid and their rivals Barcelona.
