Letter To Leah…

Letter To Leah…

The news has filtered…
From you, a captive, a bundle of innocence
Has wailed into the earth…

What a paradox…

A baby is born out of a broken innocence
Alone, you have gone through the
Delicate stages of childhood, adolescence
and now, motherhood…

Now, only you understand the emotions you feel
But I know as you gaze at your child, a cocktail of emotions…
Should you love or hate him/her?
What contradictions does the bundle of innocence
a part of your being portend…

Love In the Time Of Buhari (Episode 1)

What a world would you have wished for your child?
A world of freedom or captivity?
As the birth pangs grew, you must have thought
Of the Mum you had…
Have you learnt enough to mother another?

You went to school,
You had dreams…
Did you project what your family would be like..
I doubt, you had other childhood dreams…
Then your abduction happened…

Then the injustice in being held back
While your mates breathed the air of freedom
For a faith you had no hand in choosing…
Your fate differed…

Now, you have been forced through cycles
And given no choice
Now you must be asking, what do I do
With this hapless baby?

Towards A Muslim Bar?

How do I nurture him/her in captivity
What world is he/she coming into?
Will the child ever read your story?
What can you tell the child about a world
That turned a quest for education into
A global story of outrage and helplessness?

Leah, you have questions
But time they say is a babbler that speaks
Even when not asked!

But Leah, this must be a turning point
This same month, there was the commemoration of Nigeria/Biafra
War…there were victims
There was commemoration of Holocaust…there were victims

There were victims who are today victors…
May be, just may be, you and your new baby
Will grow in a world where your ordeal would help liberate
Humanity from the grips of bigots.
Hitler too was here…
Today his victims are triumphantly alive….
But ignominy follows him and his ilk…

Welcome to motherhood….
Extract the joy you have lacked all these years…
Your story might just liberate other captives and shame
The blights of the earth…
