— Callistus Agwaza, Jalingo

Taraba state coordinator of New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), Mr. Dennis Nev has said the state stands a better chance to benefit immensely from NEPAD funding windows with the measures being put in place by Governor Ishaku.

Nev, a retired Permanent Secretary Government House Administration and Special Adviser to the governor on NEPAD stated this yesterday in Jalingo while briefing journalists on what the state stands to gain from NEPAD when the state office becomes fully operational.

According to him, NEPAD main goals were promoting good governance which can fast track development in all facets of human life, adding that governor Ishaku has put all indices of development on ground from physical infrastructure to skills training which have received the commendation of NEPAD national office.

He maintained that despite the economic recession, the governor was paying salaries and executing people oriented projects that are of great economic benefits to the people of the state.

The Special Adviser cited the Green House project which has employed over 200 youths and the recent presentation of working tools to over 335 graduands of youths   skills acquisition training have earned the state a good reputation at the NEPAD national headquarters Abuja.

“I want to commend the governor for the ongoing recruitment of 3000 school teachers, the timely procurement of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs for farmers and other projects initiated by the governor because there are clear indices of good governance which deserve commendation.

“Education is key for all we do, so with the recruitment of 3000 teachers, very soon people will stop sending their children to private schools and paying through their nose.

“This is why I commend the governor for rescuing our educational system. With this development, the governor has also rescued a good number of our graduate population who before now were roaming the streets in search of jobs. Many others are now going into agriculture which is highly lucrative,” he said.

Nev noted that because of the giant strides the administration of governor Darius Ishaku was making in creating jobs and reducing poverty the National Coordinator of NEPAD has indicated interest to visit the state to see how NEPAD can help the state to improve on her successes.

The NEPAD state chief executive called on the people of the state irrespective of party differences to support the governor whom he said is doing his best to reposition the state for the good of all, even as he called on NGOs with vision for development to register with NEPAD Taraba and help promote good governance in the state.
