By Ikenga Chronicles July 12, 2018

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has explained why the country is yet to sign up to the $3Trillion Continental Free Trade Agreement.

The agreement, which promotes inter-regional trade was signed by forty-four African countries in March.

Explaining why Nigeria has not yet signed, President Buhari, during the state visit of South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa said that he had to be sure that the agreement will not affect the development of Nigeria’s economy.

He further explained;

“I am a slow reader, maybe because I was an ex-soldier. I didn’t read it fast enough before my officials saw that it was all right for signature. I kept it on my table. I will soon sign it.”

South Africa—one of Africa’s biggest economy, together with Nigeria and Angola— signed up to the agreement early this month.
