Igbo’s Senators March To Buhari’s Office

South-East Caucus members in the Senate led by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and the Caucus’ Chairman, Eyinnaya Abaribe, on Wednesday, November 9 visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting came barely few hours after the Republican billionaire Donald Trump emerged as the  U.S President in a keenly contested election.

The nucleus of the meeting as disclosed to State House correspondents by Ekweremadu was that the South-East senators met with the President to discuss issues of the Indigenous People of Biafra; lopsided appointments; security and general infrastructure in the zone.

“For us from the South-East, we believe that dialogue is better than any other form of engagement. So we decided to visit the President and present to him some of the concerns of the South-East including the issues of roads and general infrastructure.”

“We also discussed the issue of security with him and of course the issue of IPOB. We had a good conversation and he promised to look into the issues,” Ekweremadu Said.

Also speaking, Senator Abaribe said that regardless of the fact that there are issues everywhere, the South-East remained the most short-changed of every other zone of the country.

The senator noted that even President Buhari himself acknowledged that governors from the zone had raised some of these issues with him. According to him, the president promised to address the issues.

He said, “This is the South-East caucus in the Senate and we came to see the President because of the issues we have in the South-East. We had a fruitful discussion with the President. He has promised us that he is going to look into the problems of South-East.”

Also among the senators that visited the president are Sam Egwu, Hope Uzodinma, Andy Uba and Chukwuka Utazi.
