How Amaechi Hijacked Scholarships Meant For Ordinary Nigerians

Nigeria’s Minister of Transportion, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has been indicted for hijacking scholarship opportunities meant for ordinary Nigerians and distributing it amongst candidates chosen by him and his co-ministers.

According to the report, the scholarship which is part of the corporate social responsibility of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) was intended to sponsor young Nigerians to study railway engineering, in China.

However, instead of making the offer public for the best candidates to be chosen, Amaechi’s ministry of transportation reached out to top government officials and asked them to bring their candidates.

Only the persons nominated by the top government officials were allowed to come for the interview, while the door was shut on other deserving young Nigerians.

Some of the ministers fingered in this scandal include:

Anthony Anwuka–Minister of state for education, Audu Ogbeh–Minister of Agriculture, Useni Uguru–Minister of the Niger Delta ministry,Solomon Dalung– Minister of sports, Sulaiman Hassan–Minister of state for Power, Works, and Housing, Adebayo Shittu–Minister of Communication, Udoma Udo Udoma–Minister of budget and national planning, Ade Ipaye — Deputy Chief of Staff, Presidential Villa, Aisha Abubakar–Minister of State for Trade and investment, Senator Hadi Sirika–Minister of state for transportation(Aviation), Badaru Abubakar–Jigawa state governor.

This is particularly disheartening, coming from a government that continues to boast that it is anti-corruption.
