Group To Host A Night Of Poetry In Port Harcourt.

Nigeria’s oil rich state of Rivers has been in the news for mostly negative reasons for the past few weeks. With militancy, the struggle for resource control, and a new¬†status as an opposition state, violence has become fully entrenched in the state. Many have began to wonder if the state only markets negative things.

A group, known as the Niger Delta Think Tank has come out to showcase the rich literary culture of the state, and the Niger Delta by organising “A Night of Poetry”, in commemoration of the UNESCO World Poetry Day. The theme for this year’s event is;”Our Niger Delta: Challenges and Opportunities.”

“A Night of Poetry” which is described as “a bid to revamp the social life of the city of Port Harcourt and enhance its rich literary brand…[and]part of efforts to tell our story, and explore opportunities from a creative perspective” is being organised by Niger Delta Think Tank, in collaboration with Seaview Poetry Club,Palmbits IPWC, and many others.

The event which will feature poetry performances, will serve as a platform to showcase indigenous poetry, as well as broaden the on-going
interactions on the prospects and challenges of the Niger Delta region, and will hold on the 20th of March, 2016, at Juanita Hotels, Herbert Macaulay Street, Old G.R.A. Port Harcourt,at 5pm.
