Groin Injury: Messi Out For Three Weeks

By Ikenga Chronicles December 23, 2016
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has picked up a groin strain injury and is expected to miss out of action for a period of three weeks.
The 29-year-old was replaced by Arda Turan just before the hour-mark of his side’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou on Wednesday.
The Argentina star was shown the way off the pitch after a contest  with Atletico defender Diego Godin, as a precaution having initially attempted to play on.
Barca have now announced that Messi is expected to be sidelined until the middle of next month, most likely until after the international break.
“Leo Messi has a groin strain in his right leg and he will be out for around 3 weeks,” the club posted via their official Twitter account.
Barca took the lead against Atletico through Ivan Rakitic’s first-half header, but Angel Correa equalised in the second period, just two minutes after Messi’s withdrawal.
