Gombe By-Election: APC Loses to PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, on Sunday lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Dukku North Constituency by-election into the Gombe State House of Assembly as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Alhaji Kawuwa Malala of the PDP as the  winner of the election.

In announcing the result, the Returning Officer, Professor Mohammed Saidu, explained that Malala polled 7,060 votes to floor his opponent who contested under the platform of the APC, Alhaji-Alhaji Inuwa, who scored 4,023 votes.

The Returning Officer further added that the candidate of ADPM, Yakubu Abubakar, scored 31 votes while Sirajo Mohammed of LP scored 29 votes.

Professor Saidu also stated that Mohammed Hashidu of GPN scored 29, Mohammed Mohammed of AA got 08 votes while Abubakar Hashidu of AP got 08 votes.

The Returning Officer said, “Three polling units with 1,700 votes cast were affected by irregularities and had those votes cancelled.

“The cancellation will not affect the election, based on the electoral law.”
