Glo-CAF Awards: Nigeria Bags Four Awards

Nigeria scooped four awards at the 25th edition of the Glo-CAF Awards held Thursday night in Abuja.

The Super Falcons opened the floor for Nigeria as  Women’s National Team of the Year after winning their 8th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations title ahead of Cameroon in December.

Asisat Oshoala was voted as Women’s Player of the Year. The Arsenal Ladies forward was quite phenomenal in the period under review for both her London club and the Falcons.

The Nigerian duo of ‎Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi were also winners as the Most Promising Talent and the Youth Player of the Year Award respectively.

Both the Arsenal and Manchester City players were absent due to club engagements  as ‎the NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, received the awards on their behalf.

However, Algerian star, Riyad Mahrez has been crowned the African Player of the Year ahead of  Pierre-Emerick AUBAMEYANG (Gabon & Borussia Dortmund) an Sadio MANE (Senegal & Liverpool)‎.

The Algerian was instrumental in his club side, Leicester City winning ‎the English Premiership title in 2015/2016 season..

In other categories, Dennis Onyango bagged the‎ African Player of the year award, Pitso Mosimane (Mamelodi Sundowns) as coach of the year, his club,  Mamelodi Sundowns ( South Africa) as African Club of the Year and Uganda – National Team of the Year.
