“Get South Africa To Pay Compensation For Xenophobia Attacks”–Nigerians in SA Urge FG

Nigerians in South Africa have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to use the occasion of the two days visit of President Jacob Zuma of South Africa to Nigeria, to impress upon his government to pay compensation to Nigerians who lost properties and businesses during the April 2015 attacks in South Africa. The appeal as made by the President of Nigeria Union South Africa (NUSA), Mr Ikechukwu Anyene while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.According to Mr. Anyene,

“Lots of Nigerians lost their means of livelihood, material possessions and for many, all their hard work. We have sought for compensation on behalf of these victims from the South African government through the Nigerian government so that the victims can be adequately compensated. Up to this point in time nothing has been heard about the compensation request on behalf of the victims”.

The group therefore wants the presidency to step into the matter, and ensure that what is due to the victims are given to them.

Mr. Anyene expressed dismay that despite the high rate of police and prosecution efficiency in South Africa, reported cases of murdered Nigerians have remained unsolved, with no arrests made, and called for more to be done by the South African government in exterminating xenophobia.
