For This Cross I Die

Dr. David Yonngi Cho, wrote about an event that transpired before Christianity became widespread in South Korea.

There was a Pastor that was captured with his family. He was thrown into a hole to be buried alive with his wife and three children. He was told to deny Jesus and he would live. The children were begging their father to let them live. It was their mother that hushed them up. She told them they were meeting with Jesus that day! The family was eventually buried alive.

According to Dr. Cho, virtually everyone that watched the execution, eventually decided for Jesus, including their captors!

Today I remember the ’20’ Egyptian Coptic Christians who were beheaded by ISIS for their faith. These men refused to deny their confession of Jesus.

After the beheadings, the Coptic Orthodox church released their names, but there were only 20 names. In the video of the murder released by the ISIS terrorists, the ISIS leader’s victim was black, in contrast to the others, who were ethnic Copts.

It was later learned that the 21st martyr was named Mathew Ayairga and that he was from Chad. He was not originally a Christian, but he saw the immense faith of the others, and when the terrorists asked him if he would reject Jesus, he reportedly said, “Their God is my God”, knowing that he would be martyred. Other sources spell his name as Matthew Ayariga and say that he was from Ghana.

Dear Christian, what trial are you experiencing that is making you think of going back on your commitment to following Jesus?

What business, career, financial, marital or material advantage do you want to gain here on earth and you are being tempted to lose your confession of faith in the Lord because of it?

I would like you to remember that we are temporary residents here, our home is in heaven with our father. And He is keenly watching how we take our stance for Him.

“But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God” Luke 12:9
