Renowned environmental activist and one of the key figures that is fighting for the total implementation of the UNEP report in Ogoniland, Comrade Celestine Akpobari has stated that despite the launch of Ogoni clean up by the Federal Government of Nigeria, there are still some key structures that need to be in place before the clean up can start.

Comrade Akpobari who was airing his views during an interactive dinner with the British High Commissioner Paul Arkwright and key Civil Society Organization stakeholders in Port Harcourt, stated that the necessary Governing Council and Board of Trustees for the clean up have not been set up, and no timeline has been given for their set up.He also pointed out that the counterpart funding that is to come from Shell Petroleum Development Company is not also available.

Mr. Akpobari advised that it is necessary that whatever promise made should be backed up by concrete action.
