Federal Govt. to compensate Dasuki

Dasuki, the National Security Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, held since
December 2015 on fraud charges has gotten some respite. A judge at the court of the
Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) ruled on Tuesday that he should
be released, saying his detention was unlawful and arbitrary.

Sambo Dasuki has been accused of fraud involving $68 million of defense spending,
part of a wider $2.1 billion in arms deals under investigation. He has pleaded not
guilty.

The judge at the ECOWAS Court of Justice, sitting in Abuja, ruled that Dasuki should
be released immediately and the government should pay him 15 million Naira in
compensation for his arrest and detention.

It will be recalled that Buhari’s corruption fight has attracted severe criticism in
recent times, with many accusing him of being partisan. Buhari has ignored all calls
for trial of people in his government and party, the APC.

Yesterday, the complaint was given credence after the news that a court had ordered
the return of properties belonging to former Bayelsa State governor, Sylva, which
were seized by the EFCC.
