Fayose’s Defection: APC, PDP In War Of Words

By Ikenga Chronicles December 6, 2016

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State were on Monday, December 5 locked in a war of words over the purported statement credited to Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose of his alleged plan to quit PDP.

Taking a swipe on Fayose, the APC in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun disclosed that Fayose’s planned defection was to evade prosecution for alleged crimes.

Olatunbosun, who sounded shocked queried why Fayose who calls himself “the Opposition Leader in Nigeria” would contemplate dumping his party in a bid to evade justice.

Olatunbosun said: “It is an act of insincerity for Fayose, who boasts that he is the leader of opposition, to dump his party for the ruling party, thinking that would save him from prosecution.”

“The party he is planning to join is the same party whose members he has clamped in jail on trumped-up charges.”

“Sensing that PDP is in the throes of death, he is contemplating dumping the party but there is no place for him in APC as he is only looking for an escape route from prosecution.”

But PDP’s Publicity Secretary Jackson Adebayo reacted saying no reasonable Nigerian would join the APC which, according to him, brought Nigeria to its knees with its anti-people policies. He disclosed that Fayose has no intention of joining the APC.

Adebayo said: “It’s only a politician who wants to commit political suicide that would nurse the ambition of defecting to the dying party.”

“He is not given to deceit and fake promises which are the hallmark of the APC.”

“We want to say without sounding immodest that even if the APC consults the oracle from now till 2018, Fayose will not join because nobody would leave a city for the jungle to search for a mansion.”
