Eto’o Rules Out National Team Return

Former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o has ruled out a possible return to the Cameroonian National team ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria in August 2017. Cameroon are desperate to displace the Super Eagles from the top of group B in the crucial double header games next year.

In an interview with Telefoot, Eto’o ruled out a return to the squad for the African Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers because of his age.

“Oh no! I’m a little old for that … There’s a young generation. Even if they have almost the same age with me”

The four-time African Footballer of the Year hung his boots on his international career in 2014 after scoring 56 goals in 118 appearances for the Indomitable Lions.

The 35-year old has a goal scoring record against the Eagles having scored two goals in three matches against the Super Eagles.

He first played against Nigeria in 1997 at the LG Cup in Tunis, before two appearances at the African Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2004.

The Genort Rohr-led team are currently leaders of Group B with 6 points from two games, followed by Cameroon with 2 points
