Edo Agog As Obaseki Takes Oath of Office

Godwin Obaseki has been sworn in as the fifth civil Governor of Edo State. Obaseki was sworn in by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Cromwell Idahosa, after taking the oath of office at about 12:20pm, amidst jubilation and adulation from a large crowd of supporters.

The Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu, took his oath of office earlier at about 12pm.

The Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin, was filled to capacity as supporters came out en mass to show their support for the new governor. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the main bowl of the stadium was filled to capacity as well-wishers, associates, friends and family members thronged the stadium to witness the ceremony.

Among the dignitaries, who were at the event, which also marks the end of Adams Oshiomhole’s two terms as governor of the state, was the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Some others were Aliko Dangote; Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State; Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State; Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun; and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ondo, Rotimi
Akeredolu.

Also at the event were former military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, and a host of ministers such as that of the Ministry of Information and Orientation, Lai Mohammed.
