DSS Raid On Judges,Cover Up To Stop A Southerner From Becoming Chief Justice Of The Federation?

The Department of State Security in the erly hours of Saturday the 8th of October carried out multiple raids on the houses of judges in Port Harcourt and Abuja. Justices Adebiyi Ademola, Muazu Pindiga, Nnamdi Dimgba, Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, Justice Sylvanus Ngwuta were consequently detained by DSS.

It should be recalled that Justice Ademola Adebiyi is handling the Dasuki case, while Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday 22 July 2016 berated the Department of State Services (DSS) for flouting an order of the court to remand a defendant in prison.

Recently though, as part of efforts to nominate a new Chief Justice of the nation, the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) recommended Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for further recommendation to President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation as the new Chief Justice.

The incumbent CJN Justice Mahmud Mohammed will retire on November 10th when he reaches the compulsory 70 years retirement age.

Many however see the DSS’s raid as part of a cover up to ensure that the new CJN is from the North, and not from the South.Justice Onnoghen was born on December 22, 1950 at Okurike Town, Biase Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State, is now allegedly being charged by DSS with corruption.
