DSS Personnel In Police Nest Over Alleged Battery In Taraba

— Callistus Agwaza, Jalingo

The  Police, Taraba Command on Tuesday said it has arrested a personnel of the Department of State Services(DSS) for alleged battery against an artisan, Audu Mohammed, in Jalingo.

The Command’s Spokesman, ASP. David Misal made this known to newsmen in Jalingo, but did not disclose the name of the suspect.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect shot and injured Mohammed with a gun on Friday at TADP area after a reported argument.

Misal said the victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, where he is receiving treatment for the injury he sustained on his back.

Misal said the other DSS personnel that accompanied the suspect would also be arrested subsequently if found wanting

“Investigation into this matter is still going on, and I want to assure you that anyone found involved in the crime will face the full wrath of the law.

“I want to inform you that this command under CP David Akinremi, has adopted self cleansing: we will not hesitate to prosecute even our men if found involved in crime. You will recall that one Sgt. Maisalati of this command was recently arrested when he became involved in burglary. He will soon be arraigned in a court.

Narrating his ordeal, Mohammed said he was battered by two DSS personnel who came to the area in a vehicle, shortly after he questioned the driver’s reckless driving.

The victim said one of the personnel in plain cloths shot at him after he refused to enter the vehicle as they demanded, because he did not know who they were and appealed to the state government to come to his aid by ensuring that justice prevailed in the case.

Misal assured that justice would prevail at the end of the day and called on the people to confidently report any misbehavior from security personnel with the assurance that they would get justice.
