Do Not Repeat Edo State Robbery In Ondo- PDP Warns INEC,APC

By Ikenga Chronicles November 1, 2016

Ahead of the November 26 Ondo State governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Governors’ Forum has warned that it will not fold its arms and watch impunity and daytime robbery as allegedly happened in Edo State.

The party stated this in a statement it issued in Abuja on Monday, October 31 signed by the secretary of the Forum, Patrick Okon. In the statement,it requested that INEC should be overhauled.

The governors raised the alarm that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is already plotting in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)to rig the Ondo election.

Recall that Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State during the unveiling of the APC’s gubernatorial candidate before the President in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, boasted that the party will take Ondo State as it did in Kogi and Edo states governorship elections.

Reacting, the PDP called on President Muhammadu Buhari to caution his APC party and INEC to be fair in the coming election.

Part of the statement reads, “We are aware of the plan of APC to get Ondo state by all means, including enlisting the assistance of INEC.”

“We are warning that we will not fold our arms to watch this impunity and daytime robbery. INEC is an umpire and should play its role very well so that the electorates will have confidence in it. From the way things are going, the people are already losing confidence in the commission. INEC should stick to its electoral mandate and should not subvert the law of the land.”

“INEC should conduct itself very well in this forthcoming Ondo state governorship election to avoid a repeat of what happened in Edo election. We call on Mr. President to caution his party, APC and INEC to be fair in this coming election schedule for November 26.”
