Dino Melaye Weeps For Nigeria; Calls For Immediate Resignation and Prosecution Of The SGF Babachir Lawal

Senator Dino Melaye has called for the immediate resignation of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engineer Babachir Lawal. Senator Melaye made this call during Senate’s plenary session on the 14th of December. The call came during the review of the interim report of the Senator Shehu Sani-led “Ad-Hoc Committee On Mounting Humanitarian Crisis In The North East.”

In making this call, Senator Melaye referred to page five of the report where it was pointed out that Roller Vision Engineering Nigeria LTD anchored by Engr. Babachir Lawal was awarded a consultancy contract “for the removal of invasive plant species in Yobe state, on the 8th of March, 2016.”

Senator Melaye drew attention to the fact that as at the time the contract was awarded, Engineer Lawal, was already the Secretary to the Government of the Federation!

“Mr. President, this contract is not a constituency project!” Senator Melaye bellowed.

He went on to say that even though, Babachir Lawal, in trying to shield himself resigned his Directorship of the company in September 2016, it was well after the contract had been executed. Even at that, Engineer Lawal remains a signatory to the account;

“I am appalled that it is on record… that as I speak to you, he is still a signatory to the account of the company”

Senator Melaye clarified that such action is “gross abuse of office” and pointed out that;

“Going by the budget of 2016, there is no contract labeled to the person of the SGF. This is diabolical… and a disgrace to us members of this chamber. Babachir has exhibited anti-Buhari tendencies”

“Yesterday, I felt like crying. Today, I want to cry” he stated.

Senator Melaye then called for the immediate resignation of Babachir Lawal from the office of the SGF, and his prosecution;

“Every lie has an expiry date. The lies of the SGF has expired… there is a clarion call for the immediate resignation–and after submission of report–prosecution” of the SGF.

“The integrity of the leadership of this senate and that of every senator and Nigerians is on test… It s time to call a spade a spade; a time for Dr. Bukola Saraki to act. We are watching” he concluded.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer Babachr Lawal has severally been fingered as corrupt. This therefore serves as a further test of the Buhari administration’s willingness to prove its commitment to fighting corruption irrespective of who the accused is.
