Cutting Waste: Presidency Gifts Air Force Two Aircraft From the Presidential Fleet

As part of efforts to cut waste, the Presidency today, gifted the Nigerian Airforce with two AgustaWestland AW101 from the presidential fleet. The handover ceremony took place at the Press Wing of the Abuja airport, with Minister of Defence Mohammed Dan-Ali as the Special Guest of Honour while the National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno was host on behalf of the president.

Speaking immediately after the handover, the Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshial Sadique Abubakar stated that;

“The two Helicopters will be immediately reconfigured and deployed to the Northeast for the use of Nigerian troops. The Air Ambulance will carry a Trauma Unit,to ensure that injured troops get immediate medical assistance during airlift.The second will will be deployed as a Troop Carrier.”

The aircratf which were acquired in 2014 and 2015, were described by the AVM Abubakar as “…some of the most sophisticated, most comfortable and most equipped in the world”

The helicopters, we are told, possess ballistics defence capabilities, and are equipped against certain forms of missile attacks.
