Cosy In The Arms Of Buhari: Kemi Adeosun’s Certificate Forgery Allegation

By Ikenga Chronicles July 9, 2018

Has anybody checked Aso Rock since last Friday night? It will be nice to know if people are still living there, since the silence from there is as loud as the going off of a bomb!

This followed the revelation over the weekend that President Muhammadu Buhari’s minister of finance (the one he spent six months searching for, in order to make sure that she was not only capable, but also corruption-free) forged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate of exemption, with which she has been using to work in Nigeria!

Revealed: Buhari’s Minister Of Finance Forged Her Certificate

According to the story, revealed exclusively by Premium Times, Kemi Adeosun—Buhari’s minister of finance— graduated from the East London Polytechnic in 1989, at the age of 22. That made her eligible for the compulsory one year NYSC programme. Ms. Adeosun however, did not return to Nigeria to carry out this service to her fatherland, which is compulsory for all Nigerians irrespective of whether you graduated in Nigeria or not.

Having not fulfilled this mandatory requirement for one to work in Nigeria, and knowing how much this was needed, Adeosun, according to the report, forged a certificate of exemption which bears the date of September, 2009!

As far as even a layman knows, forgery is still a criminal offence in Nigeria, and for a person of Adeosun’s pedigree, not only is a conviction expected, one also expects that she would be fired!

But this is Buhari’s Nigeria, and if antecedents are anything to go by, the President’s first line of action would be to find a way to wrap his cosy arms around Adeosun, and protect her from what his handlers have oftentimes referred to as “mischief makers”.

The Principles And Challenges Of Free, Fair And Regular Elections Under A Democracy

One must also bear in mind that this is not the first time that a certificate scandal is rocking the Buhari administration. In fact, that too many Senior Advocates Of Nigeria (SANs) were hired to ensure that the President did not have to provide his own Secondary School leaving certificate(which he claims he has, even though the photo of a statement of result that was widely circulated appears forged), should provide an insight into the trajectory that the Kemi Adeosun issue will follow. That seems to explain why resounding silence is all that is coming out of Aso Rock so far.

The much circulated copy of Buhari’s Secondary school statement of result

Resounding silence is all we hear! Bar the foolish utterance by one of Aso Rock’s self-proclaimed Spokesman, Joe Igbokwe, who hurriedly put out (and one must say, in the manner of the widely circulated Secondary school certificate of President Buhari) a badly photoshopped image of Adeosun in her NYSC uniform!

Can you beat this?

Igbokwe of course seemed not to be aware that Adeosun submitted a certificate of exemption, and as such would not have needed to wear the NYSC uniform! Talk about ignorance being loud and bold!

Deconstructing The Mbakwe Years As Governor Of The Old Imo State

As the days drag by, many in Nigeria, are patiently waiting to see how Mr. Integrity–President Buhari–will play this one. He has been known to protect his appointees even when such appointees display criminal tendencies or outrightly show that they are incompetent. The Adeosun situation offers him another opportunity to walk the talk, and prove that he does not condone criminality.

Nigerians and indeed the world are waiting
