Corruption: Kenya’s Finance Minister, Henry Rotich, Arrested

Kenya’s Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has presented himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters.

It was gathered that this comes shortly after the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered his arrest over Kimwarer and Arror dams scandal.

CS Henry Rotich presented himself to DCI headquarters moments after the DPP ordered for his arrest.

Rotich arrived at the DCI offices on Monday, July 22, around noon, and is currently being interrogated over the damning scandal that has seen the mega projects stall to two years now.

He is accused of making irregular payments of up to KSh20 billion to Italian firm CMC di Ravenna for the construction of the two dams.

The CS is facing the charges alongside his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge and other top officials from Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA).

It is not yet clear if Rotich will be arraigned in court today or the matter will be scheduled for another day.

According to the DPP, the named officers will face charges of conspiracy to defraud, failure to comply with the applicable procedures and guidelines on procurement, abuse of office, engaging in a project without prior planning among others.
